I do not see how any of the models listed really fit the needs of ALL the children within the ENTIRE school district for the following reasons:
ReplyDelete1. Cherokee classrooms themselves are some of the smallest in the district.
2. Cherokee already has larger class sizes than the other locations.
3. My children already spend over an hour on the bus each way for school why would I wish to increase that by having them bused all over the district? That doesn't include any sports activities which adds 30 minutes to an hour more.
4. Cherokee does not have the facilities to accommondate these extracurricular activities.
5. Even if the district had the money to add the additional sports facilities they have no ground to put it on.
6. If the district has money for any upgrades in academics why spend the additional funds to bus the children around the district and take away from educational possibilities?
7. All the sites need improvements to the facilities regardless of which grade levels are located where...
8. The teachers for pk-8 are doing a wonderful job in all the locations why 'fix' it if it's not broken?
9. Fix the issues in the high school before you mess with the lower grades! When the high school can show 'academic excellence' 5 years in a row then will I believe anything is being fixed on that level.
10. What does Cherokee have to offer students and/or citizens from Weir, McCune, West Mineral, and all the surrounding? We all have a post office, bar, bank, and gas station!
It has yet to be stated what the advantages to turning the entire district upside-down are...
How will additional busing of our children be advantages to them or their parents?
So what happens if we do have a central location for junior high then legislation cuts education again? Which school(s) get closed? How many teachers lose their jobs? How much additional busing do our children have to endure?
What happens if we have a general location for junior high and we continue to lose 40 students a year? Ehat if that number increases?
Why not put a junior high in Weir? Mineral? McCune? Where there is actually room (ground) to expand academically and sports-wise?
These are just a few concerns I have but I'd love to hear feedback on them...
